Happy New Year

We hope all of our dance families had a wonderful holiday season, and we send you best wishes for the year ahead. We realize 2021 hasn’t started off quite how any of us would have liked given the provincewide shutdown in place, but we all continue to make the best of the situation we are in. A huge thank you to our wonderful staff who have seamlessly shifted to teaching completely online this month.

Our Virtual Dance Studio

Until the provincewide shutdown is over (at least January 23) there will be no ‘in person’ dance classes at NLDC. This means that all registered students will continue to take their first few classes of 2021 remotely and we will transition back to in person classes as soon as it is safe to do so. With any luck, our province’s collective efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 will be more successful over the next two weeks, and we will be all able to resume in person classes on January 23.

A few friendly reminders when accessing our virtual dance studio:

  • Students will be in our virtual waiting room until the teacher admits them into the classroom. Please use your dancer’s name when logging in.
  • Virtual dancers are able to interact with their teachers if they unmute themselves when they wish to speak, but please stay muted if not speaking to cut down on background noise from your homes.
  • Dancers need a clear, safe space in your home to take class, where they can see a screen to follow along with their classmates. Our teachers are tailoring their classes for students to take from home and are NOT expecting students to have a huge space.

  • It works best if you ‘pin’ the teacher’s window to your view in Zoom after being admitted to class, so that virtual dancers can focus on the teacher.
  • We do ask that students continue to ‘dress for class’ in their classroom uniform. One exception to this would be for tap students: most tap students will not have a floor where they are allowed to wear their tap shoes, so tap teachers have no expectation that students will wear tap shoes for online classes. We can continue to practice our tap skills at home in bare feet or jazz shoes.

We are very fortunate in our industry that online dance classes can be so successful and with the right teacher and right program dance students can still keep dancing, keep progressing and thrive in this unprecedented time. We are so happy to be able to provide some normality for our students, the opportunity to connect with their dance friends, and keep moving, fit, strong & healthy.

Adult Classes & Toddler Time Classes

New Website Launched

Something new is HERE! We launched our new website just before Christmas and you can check it out here: www.northlondondancecentre.ca. We bet you see some familiar faces

Young Company

The Young Company of NLDC has started the creation of a new piece with Ms. Hannah Elias. This will be Ms. Hannah’s 4th creation for our Young Company, but definitely the first one to start its rehearsals ONLINE.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Ms. Kelsey on her wedding over the holiday break! We are so happy for you and wish you and Richard a lifetime of happiness ahead.

Thank YOU

As always, thank you for trusting us with your family’s dance education. We know you have other choices, and we’re glad you’re with us.

This business isn’t a large corporation; we are a small, family-run, local business. We appreciate you sticking with us while we are dancing online for the duration of the provincial shutdown, which allows us to keep our virtual doors ‘open’, and our wonderful staff employed. Let’s all make the best of this mandated shutdown period and continue to enjoy the role that dance plays in our lives. When it’s safe to return to the studio for in person classes, your body and mind will thank you for continuing your classes virtually! Our teachers look forward to seeing you all online soon.

We originally created this post back in April 2020, but it’s certainly relevant again now.
