Deanna Walker
Deanna is a student in our adult ballet program & takes SEVEN classes a week at NLDC.
Deanna started dancing because she loves music, and although dance was not in her family growing up, it always looked like it must feel so good. At university she was able to pick up different social dances informally, but when she learned there was such a thing as ballet for adult beginners, she felt too awed to sign up. We’re glad she got over that and she is too!
“Her favourite part about dancing at NLDC is that dancers can progress as adults in ballet. “I am very grateful for the opportunity here; I don’t think you can have access to this kind of adult instruction just anywhere.”
Deanna’s future goals with dance include continuing to improve on alignment and to be really in touch with her centre of gravity. Lately I have been working on some specific toe and shoulder problems. Dream goals would be to progress through exams and to teach.”
“I have always been shy of being watched or on display. So, in my time here it has surprised me to find that as I feel good about how hard I have worked, even when it’s still not great, more and more I feel like I want to show it and share it.” Deanna loves that her ballet classes give her a weekly confirmation that ballet DOES feel as good as it looks!
Congratulations, Deanna, on being our Student of the Month.
Keep up the GREAT work & happy dancing!
